1.Christmas Tree
Pick out a Christmas tree (real or fake) and get ready for a fun night of decorating! David and I bought our first Christmas tree together last week. Of course, I dragged him all through Hobby Lobby for over an hour getting the perfect ornaments and tree topper. That night we spent our time pulling out the ornaments we’d collected from our past trips and getting the tree up. 2.Ornament Decorating Here’s a chance for you two to make something you can use throughout the years to come! A simple ornament can commemorate the date you got engaged, got married, or bought a new house. Make sure you date it too! We haven’t decorated any ornaments yet but I did buy one to honor our engagement off of Etsy! Go check out their awesome selection! 3.Ice Skating/ Sledding- Get out of the house for some winter activities! Despite being in the south, there are always local places that do ice skating during the holiday season. David grew up playing hockey so naturally he taught me how to ice skate. I can say that finally after two years I can stand on my own! 4.Gingerbread Competition You can buy “DIY Gingerbread House Sets” from Walmart or Target! Buy two and make it a friendly competition! David and I haven’t done this yet but I am intrigued to see how they will come out. I think when we do we will have to make a little wager: loser does the dishes. Needless to say, I can’t wait until he loses haha! 5.Christmas Movie On a cold night (yes it gets cold here sometimes) stay in for a movie marathon! If you are into all the cheesy hallmark movies, they have uploaded a whole bunch of new ones to Netflix. Personally, I prefer the classics. David and I will have several movies dates to watch Elf or The Grinch this month! 6.Christmas Lights Hop in the car and go to your nearest light show! Often times, your town will put of a walk or drive through light show! Every Christmas break when I would visit David in Cincinnati, he would take me to the zoo for their “Festival of Lights” where the exhibits were decked out in bright Christmas lights and it snowed every year we went! This year, I’ll be taking him to the New Orleans version “Celebration in the Oaks” which is put on by City Park! 7.Give Back The Christmas season is ultimately about giving. This year, take the time to give back to someone who needs it. Whether it is volunteering at your local soup kitchen or homeless shelter, the two of you will feel an overwhelming amount of gratitude in helping someone in need. David and I decided that this year we are going to participate in my work’s charity. I work in the Emergency Department and we are “adopting a family” where we bring in toys, clothes, etc. In order to make sure their Christmas happens this year, we will provide baskets of food and gifts to a family in need! 8.Ugly Sweater Party Who doesn’t love an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party? You can grab your ugly Christmas sweater from Walmart, Target, or TJ Maxx for less than $20! This themed party has become the new norm of the holiday season! We will probably end up at one of the local bars’ annual Christmas party this year! 9.Caroling Fa la la la la!! Warm up those voices and get ready for your show! Get a couple of your friends and head out for a night of caroling. You can go around your neighborhood and end the night with dinner or coffee and desserts! Maybe I can talk David into going caroling this year? Stay tuned! 10.Christmas Plays Grab tickets to your local theater! Whether it is Elf or the Nutcracker, plays can be an unforgettable date night out on the town! David and I plan on checking out Elf the Musical at the Saenger in New Orleans this season! 11.Hot Cocoa and Chill Spend the night in with some hot chocolate! Turn up the Christmas and bake cookies for Santa. At some point in their life, everyone has grown up making cookies as a part of their Christmas tradition! We will definitely be doing this easy date night in! Who doesn’t want to return to their childhood and decorate cookies for a night? 12.The Christmas Box The Christmas Box can be a date night that easily turns into an annual tradition. Think of the Christmas Box like a mini time capsule. Fill a box with a bottle of wine, matching Christmas PJs, letters to each other, or delicious Christmas treats and enjoy it Christmas Eve! I am thrilled to do our Christmas Box this year! I’ll be collecting items all December long for us to open and appreciate on Christmas Eve!
