So you and your fiance are split between two cities. We get it! I am from New Orleans and David is from Cincinnati. However, there is no reason for our guests to feel left out of any of the pre-wedding festivities so we decided to have two of everything! David's parents threw us an engagement party last weekend to celebrate with all the Ohio folks! Our theme was an "I Do BBQ" which would feature all the typical barbecue foods, music, and corn hole to make a perfect summertime engagement party!
We ordered invitations from Minted of course! I wasn't too impressed with some of the typical "I Do BBQ" invitations out there. So I picked a small rectangle invitation with leafy embroidery which I could just customize the wording on. Plus it was simple and classic at the same time rather than the cartoon invitations I kept seeing over and over!
So with invitations sent, we went on the hunt for some decorations! His mom actually won a tent at a raffle auction which kept all the guests shaded until the sunset. The tent had even come with lights on the inside which we were able to turn on once it got dark. Each table had a checkered table cloth with sunflower centerpieces. To make the centerpieces, we took mason jars and made checkered and burlap sleeves then we filled each one with a large sunflower and some baby's breath. We set up decorations such as an "I Do BBQ" banner, red heart balloons, and various red/white hanging pom poms to really tie the whole theme together! Almost everything you can find at Party City, Hobby Lobby, or on Amazon. With all the decorations ordered, we crafted a playlist for the party! We borrowed a speaker system from a friend which worked out so well. I made a playlist in order to prevent songs from playing that you might not want all your relatives to hear haha! I had all sorts of feel good love songs such as "Marry You" or "My Girl" which I added to my spotify playlist. Check out the "LOVE" playlist on my spotify profile (vredfearn1) for different song ideas! We had such a fun time celebrating our engagement with all our friends and family in Cincinnati. Each guest took home a goodie bag that said "Kisses from the Future Mr & Mrs" and also included our wedding website where our guests could stay updated! We can't wait to have everyone together in New Orleans for the big day! P.S. We owe a HUGE thank you to David's parents, Andrew (his best man), and the rest of the Fillios family for helping make all of this run smoothly!

Ashley Valdez is the founder of "Sweet Touch" which is a custom cookie company in New Orleans! Like many native Louisianians, she grew up in the kitchen cooking with her family. She actually took her great grandmother's original cookie recipe which she uses in her shop today! Ashley was inspired to start her cookie business after she became hooked on youtube videos (come on we've all been there) about cookie decorating. And of course, people can't get enough of them!
Let's talk details: Price per cookie: $42 per dozen Flavors: vanilla sugar cookies and chocolate sugar cookies Shipping: Local orders only! (No shipping) First, she starts with two main flavors and a wide range of colors. She likes to stick to "plaque" shaped cookies because they ultimately can be turned into anything and everything. This allows her to customize her cookies to fit your every theme or idea. Usually the couple or hosts send guests home after an engagement party with a favor that has the upcoming wedding date somewhere on it. Each one is individually wrapped and tied with a bow which makes it super easy for guests to grab on the way out! I had reached out to Ashley about creating some sort of cookie that my guests could take home at the end of the night. She helped me pick out "calendar cookies" with our date and even featured our wedding colors. Our favors had guests raving about them even days after the party. I can't wait to order more for my bridal shower or for my hotel welcome favors! |
