Looking at venues is one of the best parts of wedding planning. Along with free mimosas, you get the chance to step into what your wedding day will look like! However, the venue is a pivotal moving piece in your wedding day and can be tricky. So, what should you look for when you visit your venue?
For starters, make sure the venue is available for the day or month you are looking for. If you're flexible, aka you haven't booked a place for the ceremony, it will be much easier for you to set a date around a venue or reception hall. If you are unable to move the date around, this should be at the top of your venue checklist. If the venue isn’t available and you are unable to move your date then scratch it off and move to the next one! Next, it's all about space. Can the venue hold everyone comfortably? Key word: COMFORTABLY. If you are having a wedding of 400 people don't try to squeeze into a venue that is meant for 200! On the other hand, if you have a guest list of 50 people you probably don't want to rent a huge reception hall that will make your wedding seem smaller or that less people showed up then you expected. Make sure the space is appropriate for the guest list whether it's big or small. Now that you have the right space, does it come with the set up? A lot of venues have started to up their price depending on their table settings. For example, you can upgrade from white fold out chairs to actual wooden chairs for an upcharge on the price! Or they will upgrade you from white cheap table cloths to white linens for a “small fee” per table. Steer away from venues that give you a low-ball price just to increase it with add ons! Additionally, you should ask about what the vendue offers in terms of services. Do they offer food and staff? Do they offer an in house DJ or band? Do they offer an open bar? Do they offer a photo booth? The more amenities they provide means less coordination required between you and multiple vendors! If you do not have a coordinator, be sure to limit the responsibility you have on your wedding day. The more your reception venue includes means there is less you have to doon the big day. After all, your wedding should be enjoyable and stress- free as possible! As for me, I am still “looking” but I am pretty sure I found the perfect place! It is a beautiful plantation that has both modern and antique flare. Additionally, it is spacious enough to hold all of our friends and family. It also comes with all the works: DJ, photo booth, open bar, and fireworks! Stay tuned for sneak peaks of when the in-laws see it next week!
